Starting Pokemon

Pokemon are a staple Nintendo franchise, and definately deserve a spot in Brawl. Even though the Pokemon series is already being represented by the Pokemon Trainer, there is one pokemon above all others who deserves another return as a stand-alone brawler.

Pikachu - The Electric Rodent

Pikachu returns to the brawl, just as quick and ruthless as you remember him. Pikachu remains largely unchanged from his Melee/Brawl counterpart.

Onix - The Stone Serpent

Yes, not only in this installment will players be given two different pokemon to select right from the start, but the second one will be a complete newcomer to the series. With his unique physique as a serpent, Onix is a great fit for Smash Bros. His special attacks include a Harden move, which temporarily makes the pokemon more resistant to damage, and heavier, making it harder to throw the large beast from the stage. Onix also sports his Rock Throw and Sand Attack abilities, which can stun foes and attack them from a distance. Headbutt is also featured as his recovery move, where the creature will lunge upward, striking its bulky head into an opponent for a critical hit. Onix is quite possibly the largest playable brawler, undeniably placing him in the heavyweight class, he is strong, slow, and very hard to knock from the stage, but his weight and weak jumps also make it hard for him to recover from far off stage.

A Princess' Valient Return

Zelda - The Princess Of Hyrule

The damsel in distress returns, but this time, she's taking a much more vicious approach to the battlefield. While most of Zelda's special attacks remain the same, she now wields a sword of her own, and duals swiftly and quickly with her standard melee attacks. Her only changed special ability is her Din's Fire, which will know erect an orb of fire much like it did in Ocarina of Time, the orbs size is determined by how long the move is charged. Zelda still transforms into the quick and nimble Shiek, and shieks moveset remains unchanged.

Another Two Veteran Brawlers

Quick update today with a set of returning characters.

Mario - The Infamous Plumber

Mario returns as a balanced and well-rounded fighter, untouched and remaining exactly as he did in Brawl.

Ice Climbers - The Devoted Pair
Returning from Brawl are the lovable pair of Ice Climbers. They're unique playing style having the player control both fighters together in tandem is an excellent addition to the Smash Brothers series. They will retain the moveset and final smash they had in Brawl.

Challenger Approaching !

While the starting roster will feature many returning brawlers, it wont be a stranger to a few newcomers, it would just be cruel to make people wait to try out new characters wouldn't it ? This highly requested character is available for brawling right from the start.

Isaac - The Honorable Adept

Ready to fight right from the start, newcomer Isaac is a warrior the veteran brawlers should not overlook. This Adept brings all his skills onto the battlefield, straight from the GameBoy Advance game, Golden Sun ! With a sword in hand, Isaac is perfectly suited for swift melee attacks, but where his individuality really shows is in his four specific special attacks, all of which use Psynergy, Golden Sun's version of magic. Isaac's standard special attack is the spell "Ragnarok", which casts a massive sword into the ground in front of the character, fans of Golden Sun will remember this attack as being highly destructive, and that carries over to the brawl. Ragnarok is a charge ability, meaning the longer you hold down the button before releasing it, the stronger the effect of the spell. Other psynergy abilities Isaac brings along with him are his standard push ability, which can shove players forward with great force, Mad Growth, which causes a small tower of jagged plants to raise from the ground near Isaac, impaling nearby foes, and his recovery move "Death Plunge." All attacks are inspired by the original game, including his Final Smash, which will have Isaac summon one of many random Djinni characters.

Returning Villain

Gannondorf - King of Thieves

Gannondorf returns with two surprises that are sure to please all Smash Bros. fans. First, he is a playable fighter right from the beginning, because Gannondorf has appeared in previous Smash Bros. titles, and he is an obvious pick at a returning character, it only seems obvious to have him appear on the starting roster. Second, answering the plea of the Brawl gamer, Gannondorf finally appears featuring his own unique and custom moveset !

Gannondorf is a natural heavyweight, a perfect choice to combat the earlier announced Bowser. To answer the constant request from gamers, Gannondorf will finally fight with his sword, now you can relive the epic swashbuckling duel between Gannondorf and Link ! Gannondorf has slow, powerful melee attacks that use his hulking broad sword, including a devestating upward jab as a recovery move. Gannondorf is also able to use his energy blast move from the final battle of Ocarina of Time, which can be charged up, and shot as a giant blast. But that's not all, looking to answer all the fans requests at once, Gannondorf features a move that allows him to change his combat style. Yes, one of his special moves will have him sheath his Broadsword and wield...
The Dual Sabers set-up from the final cinematic battle in the Wind Waker. Players can hot-swap between these two fighting styles on the fly, as the duals make Gannondorf much quicker, they also make him less powerfull, so learning which style fits which situation is vital to mastering this devious character. The only unchanged aspect of Gannondorf from Brawl is his Final Smash, which still has him transform into his Triforce form, the massive and destructive beast, Gannon !

Another Three Returning Brawlers ?

Actually, this returning brawler only counts as one character, even though there are three playable. Yes, the idea of the rotational character, Pokemon Trainer, is an excellent concept and a perfect fit for brawling, here is the return of the (love it or hate it) Pokemon trainer.

Pokemon Trainer - Youth from Sinnoh
This time around the Pokemon Trainer sports an update look from Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, and features evolutions of the starting pokemon from Sinnoh. They are as follows.

Yes, that is Turtwig, Prinplup, and Infernape. These three contestants will replace the three pokemon the trainer from Brawl used. Apart from cosmetic differences, however, since the Pokemon Trainer in Brawl was such a balanced character, these shall remain the same, with a completely mirrored moveset, technically, while this is not a clone character, it is a replacement for a different character.

Speaking of cosmetic differences, your eyes dont fool you, as pictured above, players can choose from a Male or Female Pokemon Trainer, not only that, but the other costumes available are male and female members of the notorious Team Rocket!

Three Returning Brawlers

Starting off the main roster will be three characters your all familiar with from Brawl. Each features minimal differences, if any.

Bowser - King of the Koopas
Bowser returns as the series premier heavyweight brawler. Bowser remains exactly the same as he did in Brawl, with one noticable difference. Bowsers Final Smash.
The Koopa Clown Car

The Koopa Clown Car will return exactly as you remember it from Super Mario World. After collecting the Smash Ball, Bowser will retreat to his orbiting Clown Car, and players will be able to toss baddies from above, and even smash the car into the ground for a limited amount of time before Bowser returns to the battlefield.

Link - The Hero of Time

A Smash brothers game without Link is like....well it's like Gears of War without a chainsaw bayonet. Theres nothing special to say here about this Hylian mascot. Link will return with his exact moveset and Twilight Princess attire from Brawl.

Kirby - Energetic Super Star
Another uneventful return announcement. With such an already unique moveset and place in the brawl universe, Kirby returns without any unnessecary bells and whistles. Kirby will remain exactly as he did in brawl, hilarious giant pot Final Smash and all.
